Wilson RUSH PRO 2.5 2019 Pickleball Shoes

For the first review on our best pickleball shoes list, we are going to be doing a review of the Wilson RUSH PRO 2.5 2019 Pickleball Shoes.

These are slightly pricey shoes, but as we hope to show you in this review, they are definitely worth it just based on the sheer quality of them. These are some very good pickleball shoes and any player worth their salt is going to fall in love with them the moment that they use them for the first time.

Firstly, these shoes are designed to feel like nothing when worn on your feet. You can probably see it for yourself just based on how they look, but when you actually get a chance to use them you will be absolutely amazed at just how light they are.

It really does make a noticeable impact on how you perform on the court; you will feel like you are a lot quicker and more agile.

However, being lightweight alone isn’t enough to justify their place on this review list. What does help is the fact that despite being so lightweight, these are still remarkably good at supporting your feet.

We will talk about this in much more detail when we do our buying guide, but we will say right now that one of the best things to do when looking for pickleball shoes is to find some that are extremely supportive.

These shoes from Wilson more than fit the bill. They provide a ton of support for your foot muscles when playing. This has a noticeable impact when it comes to preventing injury and soreness.

One thing that we will warn you about when it comes to these shoes is that they are on the higher end of the price spectrum for sure. They aren’t too pricey all things considered, and their quality really helps to make the price a lot more bearable, but we still wanted to note that for those of you who are on a budget, that there are less pricey options out there for you to try out.

  • Pros
  • Very lightweight and breathable shoes.
  • Place a big emphasis on comfort.
  • Supportive, despite their focus on making lightweight shoes.
  • Provide a real boost to performance on the court.
  • Cons
  • A bit more expensive than most other pickleball shoes.

K-Swiss Express Light Pickleball Shoe

For the next review on this list, we want to take a look at yet another really high-end, lightweight pair of pickleball shoes in the form of the K-Swiss Express Light Pickleball Shoe.

These shoes aren’t our personal pick for the overall best shoe, but it would be difficult to deny that they are definitely a very close contender just based on the very high quality that they offer.

As with all of the other pickleball shoes that have appeared, and will appear, on our review article, they not only help to protect and cushion your feet, but also to really up your game as well.

The first aspect of these shoes that we need to mention are the great soles that they have. It may seem odd to start off the review by talking about the soles of these shoes, but they are actually quite important for how the shoes operate as a whole.

See, the soles of your athletic shoes have a massive impact on how they actually end up performing as a whole. Good soles lead to more support and more protection for your feet.

The soles on the K-Swiss are made from a special formula that uses supportive, but still very soft and comfortable foam. It checks off everything that you want checked off when dealing with soles, including lots of shock absorption, good support, and much more.

Something else that we think really helps to make these shoes worthy of being included on our list is how well they do at gripping the floor.

Now, we know that not everyone is going to play pickleball indoors, but those of you who do will probably really appreciate the fact that these shoes give you a solid grip on the ground, so the risk of slipping is basically eliminated. It goes a very long way towards reducing the chances of serious injury.

  • Pros
  • Supportive soles.
  • Provide solid grip on the court.
  • Helps to prevent injuries and post-play pain.
  • Very comfortable shoes overall.
  • Cons
  • Another pair of shoes that can cost quite a bit more than you would expect.

ASICS Gel-Dedicate 6 Tennis Shoes

While tennis and pickleball do differ in some respects, it is also true that they are extremely similar sports.

These similarities extend to what you need when it comes to the shoes that you wear while playing. So, that is why the next product that we are going to be reviewing on our best pickleball shoes list are the ASICS Gel-Dedicate 6 Tennis Shoes.

As the name makes clear, these are not pickleball shoes, but we imagine that most of you will still have absolutely no issues using them both because they are very supportive and very comfortable, which are the main components to be on the lookout for when it comes to pickleball shoes.

Likewise, we also wanted to include these shoes on our list because ASICS, as some of you may be aware of, is actually an extremely well-known and reputable brand when it comes to all different types of athletic shoes, so you just know that their Gel-Dedicate 6 Tennis Shoes are going to be quite good.

A big aspect of all shoes from ASICS, including these ones, is their great support system. They are built to really cushion all parts of your feet, but especially those that are most vulnerable when doing sports like tennis and pickleball. This includes things like your Achilles and the bottom part of your feet.

They accomplish this by using extremely comfortable gel inserts that are designed so that they slowly mold to the shape of your feet as you use them. That means that these shoes actually get more comfortable over time.

While we do wish that the shoes were a bit more breathable (they claim to be, but they really aren’t designed to let much air in), they are otherwise fairly comfortable. They fit nicely, they hug your feet, and they aren’t too hard (or too soft).

So, overall, these are some very good shoes and we are confident that none of you out there will regret picking them as your dedicated pickleball shoes.

  • Pros
  • Moldable gel inserts.
  • Shoes get more comfortable as time goes on.
  • Made from very soft, comfortable material.
  • Padded tongue helps to keep your feet secure.
  • Cons
  • Shoes aren’t designed to be very breathable.

WHITIN Barefoot & Minimalist Shoe

We admit that so far on our review list, we have been reviewing options that are largely on the higher end of the price spectrum.

We know that everyone plays pickleball on a different budget, so we wanted to include some shoes that are affordable for those who happen to be on a strict budget themselves.

The shoes that we ultimately settled on reviewing are the WHITIN Barefoot & Minimalist Shoe. The reasons why we wanted to include these shoes is because they manage to be both affordable and relatively well-made.

With a price tag of around $35 at the most, these are easily the most affordable shoe option that we have yet reviewed. While there are plenty of other good options on our review list, if you are looking to keep your costs at a minimum, then there is no question that you have to go with these shoes. They are just so much cheaper than most other decent pairs of pickleball shoes that you will find.

At the same time, don’t get the wrong idea about these shoes. They aren’t some overly cheap product that is going to be worn out and useless in just a few months. These are some surprisingly well-made shoes given how cheap they are.

They are comfortable, weigh very little, and provide a decent amount of arch support. There isn’t a whole lot more that one can realistically ask for when it comes to these types of shoes.

There are two issues with WHITIN Barefoot & Minimalist Shoe that need to be addressed before we move onto our final product review. The first issue has to do with the fact that these just aren’t dedicated pickleball shoes.

Now, we have reviewed some other shoes on this list that aren’t dedicated pickleball shoes before, but those were at least tennis shoes, which means that they worked fine for either sport. These are more general athletic and running shoes, so they aren’t quite as perfectly designed for pickleball as some other options.

  • Pros
  • Very cheap shoe option.
  • Perfect for doing pickleball on a budget.
  • Very lightweight design; can be made even lighter.
  • Flexible shoes.
  • Cons
  • Aren’t dedicated pickleball or tennis shoes.
  • Probably not going to last quite as long as some other shoes on this list.

adidas Courtjam Bounce Tennis Shoe

For the final review on our best pickleball shoes review list, we are once again going to be taking a look at some high-quality shoes. However, these ones are from an extremely well-known athletic shoe brand in the form of adidas, so expectations are going to be quite high.

Thankfully, we can say that these shoes from adidas will live up to any expectations that you might have. While they may not be famous for their tennis shoes, they have clearly made quite a good shoe that is great for tennis or pickleball.

It hits all the right notes when it comes to pickleball shoes. They are very comfortable, they provide great support for the vulnerable parts of your feet (heel, Achilles, etc.), and they are very breathable. What’s more, they are also durable shoes.

  • Pros
  • Breathable pickleball shoes.
  • Supportive.
  • Soft and easy to wear.
  • Cons
  • Another pair of shoes that could afford to be more breathable.

Pickleball Shoe Buying Guide

While the primary focus of our article is obviously going to be the product reviews that you saw above, we don’t want that to be the only thing that you take away from this article.

In fact, there are several other things that we wanted to talk about before we finish off this article. In the first part, we focused exclusively on reviews and on looking at the shoes that we though qualified as the best pickleball shoes.

In this second section we will be changing things up quite a bit by looking at what goes into picking out good pickleball shoes, like the ones that you saw above.

Do You Even Need Pickleball Shoes?

The first thing that you may wonder is whether you even need pickleball shoes in the first place. The answer is a resounding yes.

Look, we understand that pickleball is not even remotely close to being the most rigorous or dangerous sport out there.

In fact, in terms of danger, the sport is probably far below most other common ones in terms of danger. Still, any time that you do something physical, including pickleball, there is at least some risk of danger.

With pickleball, the danger comes from the extremely quick changes in direction, as well as the constant jumping, both of which can put a lot of dangerous strain on your leg muscles. This is where shoes come in handy. Having a good pair of pickleball shoes can really help to prevent injury.

What To Emphasize When Shopping

Next up, we want to cover what features you should be emphasizing when it comes to buying a pair of pickleball shoes.

As you can probably guess, not all pickleball shoes are made the same and some are just much better than others; we will be explaining what criteria we use to determine that.

Gel Inserts

In our opinion, one of the most important features that you can look for in a tennis or pickleball shoe is the presence of good gel inserts. You probably noticed that we mentioned this quite a bit on our review list and you may be curious why exactly this is.

Well, to put is simply, gel inserts act as a very good “first line of defence” for your feet when playing any sort of sport. The gel is really good at absorbing impact, which means that the impact isn’t going into your feet. So, make sure that any shoes that you get have good gel inserts.

Heel Support

When playing any sport that involves a lot of jumping, such as basketball or pickleball, then your heels are going to be taking the brunt of anything that you do.

So, as one might expect, part of finding a good pickleball shoe involves picking out shoes that place a special emphasis on supporting your heels. To tell if a shoe is good in this area (before you buy it), look at the bottom of it. Note if it is especially thick in the heel area and what the interior of the shoe is like.

Finally, there is the breathability of the shoe. We mentioned this term a few times during the course of our review article, but we never really explained what it meant, so you may want to know a bit more.

Well, as you may be able to guess, breathability refers to how good or bad a pair of shoes do when it comes to allowing your feet to breathe. This is something that we know doesn’t sound especially important at first but trust us when we say that if you buy a pair of non-breathable shoes that you will quickly regret it. Your feet will quickly become sweaty and uncomfortable.

If you still want to get some questions answered then we have good news, we have attached a comment section to our best pickleball shoes article and would encourage you to leave any comments there.
